Family Visas

Several visas are available for family members of Australian citizens, permanent residents and Eligible New Zealand citizens to migrate to Australia.
Parent visa
Several Parent Visa options exist for the natural, adoptive or step parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents or Eligible New Zealand citizens allowing them to enter Australia.
In order for a parent to qualify for any of these visas, they must pass the "balance of family" test. This test means that an applicant must have at least half of their children lawfully and permanently residing in Australia. Alternatively, they must have more children permanently residing in Australia than in any other single country.
Child visa
There are several visa options available for the children or orphan relatives of Australian citizens, permanent residents or Eligible New Zealand citizens for immigration to Australia. The child must be under 25 years old or financially dependent on their sponsoring parent if 18 years old or older.
Remaining Relative visa
This visa is available to an applicant who has no near relatives other than those usually resident in Australia as Australian citizens, permanent residents or Eligible NZ citizens. A "near relative" means a person who is a parent, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister, or child of the applicant.
Carer visa
This visa allows the applicant to remain in Australia to be the carer of an Australian relative who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or Eligible NZ citizen. The applicants intends to give continuing assistance to the sponsor or other family member who has medical condition that impairs their ability to look after themselves.
